Cycle Zydeco ReturnsLafayette, La. – Cycle Zydeco is returning and will be the kickoff event when Lafayette Parish celebrates Bicycle Month in April, 2013. Cycle Zydeco, scheduled for April 3-7, 2013, will be promoted and managed by TRAIL. (Transportation Recreation Alternatives In Louisiana) in 2013 and future years. It was run for ten years by the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission with assistance from bicycle tour experts Joan and Dick Williams. "We are excited to announce that Cycle Zydeco will be back," said Ben Berthelot, LCVC Executive Director. "This is a win-win in that it allows a popular event to return, and at the same time, the partnership with TRAIL provides a new fundraising tool for TRAIL to continue its mission of promoting great projects like the Atakapas-Ishtak Trail," added Berthelot. "I believe with its large volunteer base and experience putting on events, TRAIL is the perfect partner to help take Cycle Zydeco to the next level." Cycle Zydeco promotes the "4 E's" of TRAIL: Getting people outside to Exercise, gain Education of the environment and culture, Experience the outdoor environment and Enjoy recreation. "Cycle Zydeco complements the portfolio of running, riding, paddling and other outdoor events TRAIL puts on each year," said Scott Schilling, President of TRAIL. "These events are critical to TRAIL's mission to build and maintain parks, hiking trails, bike trails and other recreational infrastructure," he added. TRAIL has put on various events for over seven years, such as bicycle rides, runs, scavenger hunts, volleyball tournaments and more. Some upcoming fund-raising events TRAIL puts on are: The Cajun Challenge/Giant Omelette Celebrations Ride (Nov. 4, 2012), Country Half Marathon (Dec. 15, 2013), Lundi Gras Run (ninth year), Tour du Festival Ride (April 28, 2013) and Riding Armadillo Scavenger Hunt (RASH, April 2013).
